One of the assets of the company's rich heritage is Brittany's image, conveyed notably through emblematic brands such as Paysan Breton. It is essential for us that we can guarantee the consumer that the products bearing these brand names have come from a healthy environment, and that we are continuing to protect this environment.
For us, protecting the environment means above all taking preventive action at an agricultural and economic level. The principle measures concern fertilisation, pest control and the training of staff.
Integrated fertilisation, limiting as far as possible the role played by mineral fertilisers and helping to maintain balanced soil in the long-term, is essential for guaranteeing the quality of water. It can be implemented more easily by adopting innovative agricultural systems and methods such as "PlaniTERRE", which was developed by our co-operative.
As far as the pest control issue is concerned, the economy and the environment are both equally affected as it involves limiting treatments to the absolute minimum, using molecules that are easily biodegradable or even when possible adopting the Integrated Pest Management approach, which uses natural means to deal with pests.
Finally, an ambitious, ongoing training programme for staff - both farmers and employees - is being undertaken in order to ensure that these measures become long-term.
